An Important Archaeological Site
Fort Ingall is above all a place dedicated to research and to understanding the past. Identified under Borden code CkEf-4, the archaeological site was the focus of major excavations in the late 1960s and early 1970s. These excavations revealed the richness of the original fort and greatly improved our understanding of its history.

A Diverse Collection
The Fort Ingall collection illustrates the richness and diversity of human activities that took place on the site in the 19th century.
It includes objects of entertainment such as dolls and dominoes, personal items such as combs, construction-related materials like architectural fragments and nails, food remains including animal bones, ancient seeds, as well as various metal objects used as accessories, tools, or military and utilitarian equipment. Together, these items provide a valuable glimpse into the everyday lives and lifestyles of the fort’s inhabitants.
Access and Consultation for Researchers
Fort Ingall seeks to encourage research and promote the study of its collection.
We offer:
- Access to the collection for archaeologists, researchers, heritage students, curators, and professionals in the cultural sector
- Support for research projects, including archaeology, history, conservation, cultural programming, or specialized studies
- Open collaboration for university, community, or professional projects
Publications and Knowledge Sharing
The Société d’histoire et d’archéologie du Témiscouata, which manages Fort Ingall, also publishes a historical journal in which students and enthusiasts are invited to submit articles. This initiative allows new knowledge to be shared, encourages the revisiting of historical topics, and supports local research on heritage and regional history.
We are always interested in developing partnerships that contribute to a better understanding of the history of Témiscouata.
